SOUTER JOHNNIE'S COTTAGE, MAIN ROAD
A small cottage in Kirkoswald that is looked after by the National Trust for Scotland. It was
the house of Souter Johnnie, and as such you may go there to find out
just who the heck Souter Johnnie was. Was he a real person, or was he
just a fictional character in one of
Robert Burns' poems? Go there now to find
out, and when you do, come back and tell me, 'cause I'm still at a loss.
That said, it may be the case that the fictional characters were based
on real people that Burns knew, and that one of these may have been John
Davidson, a shoemaker who lived and worked in this very cottage. But I'm
saying no more on that. You'll have to go and find out for yourself.
