BARLEY BREE, 6 WILLOUGHBY STREET
Barley Bree is officially a rather grand restaurant, with rooms,
which is, of course, a hotel. It occupies a largish building
that has the look of an old hotel about it. It looks too good
for Muthill. The restaurant part is so good that sometimes they
are fully booked. However, have no fear. I have it on good
authority that you may purchase a pint of real ale at the small
bar and take it to the very comfortable lounge which is
immediately to your right on entering. The ale on the day of my
visit was from the Inveralmond Brewery in nearby
Perth. You
simply cannot beat good local ale quaffed in pleasant old
surroundings. Excellent. And, you never know, perhaps while you
are savouring good Scottish ale you may find to your delight
that a table in the restaurant has become available.
